Managing Case Types
Case Type is a key element in managing the Case workflow in CASENGINE. In this article we will understand how we can manage the case types. In another article we will learn how to map them with different locations, judicatures and appeal days.
Note: Although, CASENGINE is pre populated with mostly used Case types, you can still find some missing and thus you need to understand how to add a case type and map it for optimal results.
From Master Settings, find the Case tab and look for Case Types (to add new Case type) and Case Type Mappings (to map Case types and locations with other parameters)
Go the the Existing Case Types page as shown in the image above.
You will see the following screen:
As shown in the above image you can search, add and modify case type masters from this screen.
You have to enter/select the following details to add a new case type:
- Case Type name - add in both languages if using a bilingual package
- Country - you can select multiple countries for any Case type. This is important to enable/disable case types in bulk when we enable/disable any country. This will avoid showing a lot of irrelevant case types on the Case registration
- Case Category - you can select multiple categories for a specific Case type. This selection is important to filter out the categories when you select a specific case type on the case registration to avoid human errors.
- Name of stages of Litigation - here you select if the case type is relevant to First instance, Appeal, Cassation, Execution or all of them. This is important to maintain the correct case workflow.
- Position Group - Last selection is the Position Group. Select all relevant position groups.
Commercial Summary will have category as Commercial, stage as First Instance and position group as Claimant and Defendant.
Same way, Commercial Appeal will have Appeal as the stage and the position group will change to Appellant and Respondent
Term Explanation
Position Group - each group is a set of multiple position titles which can be used for different case parties.
Stages - consist of primarily First Instance, Appeal, Cassation and Execution and mostly remain unchanged.
Category - used to categorize the cases like Civil, Criminal, Labor and so on.
Managing Position Group or Party Titles
Every case has parties which can be titled as Claimant, Defendant, Respondent, Expert, Witness and so on. Now we will learn how in CASENGINE you can group the relevant party titles to be mapped with the Case type.
The idea is to map a group of party titles with the case type, so when you start registering a case with a specific case type you get to chose the titles from the mapped list only which avoids human errors.
Go to - Master Setting -> Case -> Position Group
You may add/amend Position group with title list. CASENGINE is already populated with widely used position groups, however using this module you can add/amend as per specific needs.
While adding or amending the list of titles within a group, you may select the type as Against/Registered by or other as shown in the image below to identify the client and the opponent titles respectively.
Important: Remember to press Add to add individual titles and finally press Submit at the bottom to save changes!
Managing Case Categories
Similar to other masters, you can add/amend the categories of the cases by going to
Master Setting -> Case and Projects -> Case Categories
As you can see in the below image, you can set colors to each category to see color coded statistics on the dashboard!
Managing Case Stages
Similar to other masters, you can add/amend the stages of the cases by going to
Master Setting -> Case -> Stages
Managing Case Judicatures/Courts
Similar to other masters, you can add/amend the Judicatures/Courts of the cases by going to
Master Setting -> Case -> Judicatures
However while adding judicatures you have the option to add multiple sub judicatures and map the same with locations. Again this is important to avoid human errors and make CASENGINE more effective.
Let's say you want to add a new court in a specific city in your location which is already not there in CASENGINE. You can use this module to add: Judicature: ABC Courts (example) Sub Judicature: Labor Court, Commercial Court etc. (example) Location: Delhi, India or Dubai or Riyadh KSA or London (whatever the location of the court is) Adding new Country and Locations are explained separately in the article - Countries and Locations
The following image illustrates the Existing Judicature module, use the relevant action button to add/amend the details as needed.
